Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing and supporting GOALS’ program operations, administration, and strategic growth. Members are appointed by the Board Chair, and nominations come from current members, donors, and supporters. The board then considers nominated candidates based on their commitment to support GOALS’ mission and future growth. Position: Board Member
Term Length: 2 years, with the option to serve consecutive terms as per the By-laws.
Reports to: Board Chair
Overview:
GOALS Haiti is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. The Board provides strategic governance, support, and oversight to further the organization's mission of advancing youth leadership through soccer and education to build stronger, healthier communities in rural Haiti.
Mission of the Board:
The Board of Directors’ mission is to guide and support GOALS Haiti’s programs, ensuring they align with the organization's strategic plan and mission.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Governance, Monitoring, and Support:
Review and uphold GOALS Haiti's mission, strategy, and activities.
Establish policies, operating at a macro-level while avoiding micro-management.
Stay informed of organizational updates and participate in annual program visits when possible.
Attend and actively participate in all Board meetings, contributing to strategic discussions.
Monitor the organization’s impact and assess overall performance in alignment with its mission.
Enhance Board performance in areas like financial health, public standing, and legal integrity.
2. Support and Assess Executive Staff:
Ensure executive staff operate within the organization’s mission, strategy, and budget.
Provide financial, operational, and advisory support as needed.
Conduct annual performance reviews, offering regular feedback based on clear metrics.
3. Financial Oversight:
Review and approve the annual budget.
Ensure financial resources align with the approved budget and maintain accurate financial records.
Provide financial oversight through quarterly review of financial reports.
Make an annual financial contribution or fundraise at least $5,000 through “give or get” activities.
4. Public Advocacy:
Promote GOALS Haiti through personal and professional networks.
Publicly support and advocate for the organization's mission and programs.
5. Legal and Ethical Integrity:
Ensure GOALS Haiti's compliance with legal requirements in the U.S. and Haiti.
Foster an organizational culture based on ethical integrity, respect, and transparency.
6. Board Capacity and Performance:
Assess the Board’s effectiveness and fulfill individual responsibilities.
Participate in recruitment and development of new Board members.
Commitment:
Attend all Board meetings, providing advance notice of unavoidable conflicts.
Actively engage in discussions, review materials, and respond promptly to communications.
Officers and Committee Chairs:
Board officers commit to serving a minimum of one year, beginning January 1.
Qualifications:
Strong passion for GOALS Haiti's mission.
Ability to contribute expertise in governance, strategy, finance, or advocacy.
Willing to provide personal and/or financial support.
