Power of Breadfruit

As part of our tree nursery and tree planting we focus on food bearing trees to increase local food production.

Through our partnership with the organization Trees That Feed we have planted hundreds of fruit trees including breadfruit. The trees that were planted in 2019 have grown strong and are now producing fruit. To celebrate this and to raise awareness on the uses of breadfruit we held a celebration showcasing the various ways it can be cooked.

It was a celebration enjoyed by the kids in the program and their families. Check out some great images from the day. Breadfruit was roasted, boiled, fried, juiced and made into dishes.

Breadfruit is a highly nutritious and resilient crop that thrives in Haiti's tropical climate, making it ideal for GOALS Haiti’s community garden and tree planting project. Rich in vitamins and fiber, it provides a sustainable source of food security while improving soil health through its deep-root system. By planting breadfruit trees, GOALS not only contributes to environmental restoration but also empowers communities with a reliable food source that can withstand climate challenges, promoting both sustainability and resilience in the face of food scarcity.

We will continue to plant trees and crops in our community gardens while promoting local food production and environmental sustainability.
